Historic Preservation Debate Leaves Phoenix Needing More Precise Economic Data
Advocates argue that historic preservation can be tied to a community's sense of identity, help bolster community interaction through diverse, walkable and engaging urban design, as well as inform sustainable development. On the more quantifiable side of the argument is that historic preservation has a positive impact on property values, downtown revitalization and job creation among others.
Phoenix Cited as Model for Voters in 25 States Weighing $200B in Transit Projects
Phoenix was held up as a model for the nation by transit officials pushing for approval of about $200 billion in transit projects on local ballots across the country next week. Proposition 104 in Phoenix expanded and extended a transit-dedicated sales tax for the next 35 years. The measure will be used to fund an estimated $31.5 billion in light-rail expansion, bus services, bike systems, street improvements and other projects over 35 years.
AZ Northwest Fire Looks to Bonds to Build Needed Facilities
Northwest Fire hopes area residents will pass Proposition 446, which would allow them to issue up to $23.61 million in bonds for capital improvements. The capital projects associated with two bond issuances include the construction of four new fire stations in high-growth areas, the expansion of one of the District's busiest fire stations and a new administrative headquarters.
$63M Bond Will Help Surprise AZ Catch Up and Grow Up
Surprise, Arizona's infrastructure and amenities are lagging behind where they should be for its size. The first step to help the city mature is the passage of a $63 million bond measure, which would fund public safety, infrastructure and recreation projects.
Coolidge AZ Main Street Improvements Get Green Light
Coolidge City Council approved a $2.55 million package to fix downtown roads. The City has received a FHWA Strategic Transportation Program (STP) grant through Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization to fund upgrades to curb, gutter, sidewalk, paving and street lighting .
Payson AZ Council Approves Loan for Pipeline Project
The Payson Town Council approved another $11 million loan from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona Thursday. This is the last loan needed to finish the C.C. Cragin pipeline project.
