OH Ranks Ninth in Equity Investment
It seems that more private-equity investment dollars found their way to Ohio last year, enough that the state moved up a notch in a national investment ranking. The investments last year went to 107 companies that employ 87,594 people.
Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits May Be Delayed
On July 1, 2017, a new policy change will go into effect that could have a significant impact on recipients of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit, O.R.C. § 149.311. Under the new program policy, "the effective date for the tax credit certificate will be the date the certificate is signed by the director" of ODSA.

DFWR Announces $25K Contribution to Akron Loan Fund
Contributions have been made recently by GOJO Industries, J.W. Didado, Dr. Cliff Deveny, the Staff, Board and Advisors of DFA and DFWR, and the Gertrude Orr Foundation to the Development Fund of the Western Reserve ("DFWR") to support the Akron Community Revitalization Loan Fund.
Preservation Tax Credit's are Key to Cleveland
Since the federal historic tax credit went into effect in 1976, Cuyahoga County has had 292 federal tax credit projects with a total investment of $2.2 billion, according to an Ohio History Connection analysis. Summit County has had 28 qualifying projects with a $146 million investment.

A proposed state law that would exempt some township fire and emergency-medical districts from having property-tax revenue redirected as part of tax increment financing agreements has a final hurdle to clear before a vote in the Ohio House of Representatives, but how the vote might go remains unclear.
Eliminating the Undersecretary of Rural Development Could Be Bad for Ohio
Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was at an event in Cincinnati and announced that USDA is eliminating the Undersecretary for Rural Development – a program that has brought $6 billion to Ohio since 2009. In 2016 alone, 5,732 awards were issued totaling $795,667,203.
Summit County Clears Way to Inject $2M into Development Fund
The $2 million will remain county money; it basically will be a last-resort economic backstop for the larger fund in the event of any loan defaults. Earned interest will be deposited into the county's general fund.
OH's Startup Activity Continues to Grow
For a being a somewhat smaller state, Ohio has three amazing startup communities. Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus all contribute to the rising growth of startups in the Buckeye state. How much growth? This year, Ohio saw a 26% increase in startup activity over the prior year.
