Harlingen, TX, Seeks to Expand Trail System With Help of State Grant
The City commissioners of Harlingen, Texas, approved an application for a $2.5 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. As part of the grant's requirements, the city must come up with $865,912 to fund the $3.4 million project.
Primera, TX, Using State Grant Money to Add Sidewalks
The City of Primera has put in its request for special TxDOT funds to add sidewalks on Stuart Place Road to tie into Primera Park. The city is seeking approval of a bid of $344,710 for TxDOT funding. After environmental studies, the project cost would be about $400,000 in total.
Tax Credits Being Sought For Historic Preservation in TX
Historic Preservation commissioners are turning their attention to parts of Longview beyond its center. In specific, they're eyeing southwestern Longview and applying for tax credits in order to finance the rehabilitation of the historic buildings.
CDFA National Summit Call for Submissions
CDFA is accepting sessions submissions for the 2017 National Development Finance Summit in Atlanta this November. Session submissions on deals, projects or programs that include multiple funding sources are highly encouraged. Submissions are due by May 12, 2017.
Controversial TIF to be Used for Houston Transit Project
At the core of the controversial Post Oak Boulevard project, with an estimated cost of $192.5 million, is the dedicated bus lane (also called bus rapid transit) system to be constructed in the median of Post Oak Boulevard. Opponents of the plan have taken issue with the legality of the Uptown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone that's partly funding the project.
Tools for Port Authority Transportation Reinvestment Zones (TRZ) and TRZs for Multimodal Applications
Transportation reinvestment zone (TRZ) that allows local governments to set aside local match contributions for the transportation projects most critical to their communities. TRZs create transportation project funding by capturing and leveraging the increase in real estate/land development value resulting from a transportation project.
TX Ports Could Benefit from Proposed Loan Program
Legislation headed to the Texas House would create a RLF to help ports deepen and widen their ship channels .Four current projects in Texas total about $2 billion have been given the go-ahead from Congress but have not been given federal funding. Roughly $800 million of that is non-federal costs.
Winters, TX, Receives Award for Water Improvements
The Texas Water Development Board awarded $822,054 in financial assistance to the city of Winters to finance water system improvements. The award consists of a $580,000 loan and $242,054 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
Texas A&M Central Texas Working to Improve Incentives for Solar Power
Central Texas may not have had a big Earth Day march but a local university is quietly making major steps in solar research. Texas A&M University Central Texas is working to make solar more cost effective for cities and businesses and what tax incentives are most effective to help businesses decide on solar power.
