Bill to Expand Former NJ Governor's Innovation Zones Advances
In an effort to attract high-technology business and jobs to the capital city region, State Sen. Shirley Turner is pushing for a bill that would expand the state's innovation zones, as reported by NJ.com. The bill advances to the full senate after approval from the Senate Economic Growth committee.
De Blasio Launches $115M Plan to Grow Manufacturing Base
Mayor Bill De Blasio announced $115 million in city funding to launch an advanced manufacturing center in hopes of strengthening New York City's struggling industrial sector, reports New York Business Journal. The city allocated $41 million over the next two years for the "Industrial Action Plan", with the remainder coming from private funds.
Medical School Awarded $16.9M in Tax Credits in NJ
As reported by NorthJersey.com, a private medical school was awarded $16.9 million in tax credits to be spread over a 10-year term. The project will leverage about $55.1 million in private investment and the creation of 271 new jobs.
Talks Said to Be Improving Between NYC, State on Housing Bonds
According to POLITICO, discussion surrounding the status of federally tax-exempt bonds in NYC has been said to be improving. The bonds, primarily used for housing projects, were thought to be in jeopardy after sources stated the Governors office informed the Mayors office that the funds may be diverted.
Port Authority of NY and NJ Executive Director Stepping Down
The New York Post reports Port Authority executive director Patrick Foye is stepping down. A newly created CEO position will replace the agency's executive director and deputy director positions.
NJ Park Development Plans Spur Opposition
A study by New Jersey officials exploring potential development opportunities at Liberty State Park in Jersey City as a way to generate new revenue is being met with skepticism by some elected officials.
